Christmas in July

For those of you who can't wait till December, maybe you want to attend North Carolina's Christmas in July celebration.

Read more about the tradition here.

Although the video below reports on an event in Nashville, it should give you some sense of what you'd face while dressed as the Grinch in ninety-degree heat.

On or Off caffeine?

As promised, here's another step forward thanks to technology. The only problem is I am not sure what ON and OFF really mean. When you fill the empty cup with hot liquid (coffee?), it changes from OFF to ON. Does that mean you are now ON caffeine, maybe as encouragement to co-workers to let you do the work? Do you have a better interpretation?

The Elements by Tom Lehrer

There are several excellent versions of this song on YouTube, but the reason I like this one is that the elements pop-up and get placed in the periodic table, as well the "unknown elements" at the end. There is even a list of the elements which are missing from the song. It's a great day when you can be entertained and learn something at the same time!!

Here's another version -- there's no list at the end, but a clever placement of the unknown elements with the tag at the end of the song -- vote for which one you like best!!

I'm not sure why I like the somgs of Tom Lehrer so much; it may be the humor, but I think it's because he is so clever. Check out the irreverent "Vatican Rag", the disturbing "Masochism Tango", the intriguing "I Got It From Agnes", and enjoy the end of the world by nuclear annihilation in "We'll All Go Together When We Go."

Here's the link to find these:

Enjoy!!

Japanese Game Shows

It is no secret that Japan has some of the strangest game shows, but the combination of costumes, tasks, and punishment in this show is beyond explanation.

Dude Where’s My House

Al Byrd of Atlanta, Georgia got a disturbing voice mail last Monday. A neighbor informed him that his famly home in Carrollton,Georgia was being torn down. After calling to comfirm the message he headed to Carrollton. Sure enough the house his father built, that Al was raised in had been torn down without a word to him. While the house was not occupied it did contain family heirlooms and memorabilia that are irreplaceable. Upon further investigation by the Carrollton Sheriff's Department, it was discovered that the demolition was a 'mistake'. Perhaps next time the contractor invovled gets an order to demolish a house they will request a street address, not just GPS coordinates, before they tear down a $200,000 property. Mr Byrd has an attorney, as well he should under the circumstances.
