World’s largest ball of paint
Mike Carmichael of Indiana owns the World's Largest Ball of Paint. It started out back in 1977 as an ordinary baseball -- and then he began to paint it. Many thousands of coats later, it weighs over 3000 pounds, has become a roadside attraction, and is recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the biggest ball of paint in the world (I'm not sure if there are any competitors to the title).According to Mike's website, for $10 he'll write anything you want on his paint ball and send you a picture of it. His website was last updated in 2007, so I'm not sure if the offer still stands, but if it does I'd be tempted to put a message from Weird Universe on it. Any suggestions?

The Mile-Long Zeppelin
This article about Bob Laws, print-shop owner, and his dream of building a mile-long zeppelin ran in various papers back in 1977. Since it's now 35 years later, we can assume Bob's plan didn't come to fruition. But people keep dreaming of building giant zeppelins. For instance, designer Tiago Barros wants to build a giant, cloud-shaped zeppelin.

Nostril Dominance
People are either right-handed or left-handed. But are people also left-nostriled and right-nostriled? Yes, they are — as reported in an article published in the journal Laterality (Mar 2005). From the study:we sought to determine which nostril has the greater airflow most of the time. In line with the notion of a biological preparedness for sidedness consistency, it was hypothesised that left-handers have their left nostril as the dominant one (defined as the nostril with the greater airflow) significantly more often than their right nostril. For right-handers the opposite was predicted: the right nostril would most often experience the greater airflow...
Result: The present data support these predictions: for both left-handers and right-handers the nostril that had the significantly greater airflow was ipsilateral to the preferred hand almost 60% of the time.

The researchers also discovered that people are pretty much useless at self-determining their own nostril dominance. (i.e. It's very hard to tell which nostril you're breathing more air through.) So they used a gadget that measured airflow into each nostril to get an accurate measure of nostril dominance.
