Hog dogs with a message
In 1990, the Viskase Corp. debuted a breakthrough in hot-dog technology. It had developed an edible ink that allowed messages to be printed onto hot dogs during the manufacturing process.As far as I can tell, this technology failed to find a market. The NY Times reported that "the Viskase Corporation found no takers for its offer to print edible-ink ads on hot dogs."
Perhaps this was because a) what kind of message is best delivered via hot dog?, and b) hot dogs are usually covered with condiments, which would hide the message.

Canned Parrot
A soon-to-be-opened San Francisco store called Terrific Street is displaying cans of "canned parrot" in its front window. Two kinds of canned parrot are on display — "free range cherry conures in their own syrup" and "colorful sky rat boiled parrot."The store isn't actually selling canned parrot. The owner of the store has explained that the display is an "art installment" inspired by Andy Warhol's paintings of canned food, while also referring to the local wild parrot population.
Says the owner: "The thinking behind the display was to make something unusual and fun for folks to walk by between now and the time we are open for business."

Leather For The Discerning Vegan
Students from Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam Netherlands collaborated on a project that would almost certainly have PETA's approval. They used the food waste from a large local market to make fruitleather. The product was used to make purses as well as swatches to show the different colors available depending on the fruits used. Leather you don't have to hide.

Beard Beer
Oregon's Rogue Brewery boasts that its Beard Beer is made with only hops, malts, "free-range coastal water," and Beard Yeast collected from the beard of its brewmaster, John Maier.Maybe it's a really great beer, but I kinda think they would have been better off keeping the source of the yeast as their own little secret.
