According to Wikipedia, this song is "Oh Dear, What Can the Matter Be?" and can be traced to 1770 in England.

Judy, you are correct about the tune. I have heard the tune countless times but somehow wasn't thinking about it when I listened to Herbi Hardt's song or wrote my comments. Thank you for bringing that to our attention, giving proper credit where it is due. I suppose for composers, using a tune in the public domain and putting new words to it would have benefits: save time in composing, tune is familiar to the audience, maybe others.
