I agree! The dude want's service from the town that (I'll bet) he doesn't pay city taxes to but doesn't want to fork up the $75 either.

The final annalists would be if the city fire department gets any funds from the county or state. If (and only if) that's the case the dude may have a legitimate beef.

well, i think if someone does not pay the $75 fee yearly then perhaps if they need fire service they should be charged for the actual response. i know some fire depts here charge $500 for false alarms after so many. (to businesses) so charge them $500 for the response or something. letting a home burn to the ground is horrible. also, what if there were people inside, would the fire dept. have left them burn to death? pretty harsh.

As I understand it GGNYC, the county folk are the ones that are asked to pay for the town's fire department. The folks in town pay city tax, etc where the county folk wouldn't.

Two years ago the city annexed us in. They "guaranteed" services etc like building new fire stations .. so far nothing has changed but the triple property taxes. We still have nothing but a volunteer fire dept. This is not to mention no city water, electric service etc which the others cost double or more than if we had them from the city.

(BTW three college students died in a apartment fire here about a year ago as the local volunteer dept could not handle it all. The city finally sent some engines etc after it had burned for over almost an hour)

I agree Miles .. they should have put lives etc at the top of the "list". You should pay for those services .. what makes us mad is we are paying and not getting them since the economy crapped out.

What makes you think they are going to have the $500 cash to pay when the fire strikes? If they won't pay the $75 fee I wouldn't extend credit to them.

Seems like the county residents needs to just have this "fee" added to their taxes like the people in the town already do.

exactly d2s, like it is done everyf-ingwhere else. instead of spending hours watch a home burn to the ground because the home owners weren't the brightest bulbs in the pack.

if you rent the insurance the landlord has on the property does not cover the contents of the house. so they would have still lost everything because i doubt they would have had renters insurance. which makes me wonder, will their insurance carrier refuse to cover the fire damage because they did not pay for fire services. no due dilligence in protecting the property.

I kinda guess our voluteer fire dept isn't so bad in many ways. A year after we got married my wife slid off the road and hit a pole head on. The volunteer fire dept/ambulance took care of things. Their "bill" was $165 or whatever you could pay. I paid them the full amount. Right now an ambulance from the city will cost you $2000 or more per ride.

Can we all just group together on the WU acreage commune site and start over again ? .. hehehehe .. I volunteer to plant the the first "crop" 🙄

i can see the other side of this, but i just could not be hard hearted enough to let someone's house burn to the ground. my conscience would not abide it. i wonder if some of those firefighters feel guilty about this.

@SAW: You're trying to say that the city police should have their jurisdiction to include the whole county? Why? There are/should be county cops for that job. And, you REALLY don't want to get me started about New Orleans unless you want to talk about Mississippi too.

@MILES: Painting a group of people with the same brush is a bit radical, hence my ire. The comments on this issue (and it's been a long time since we've had a good one) fall neatly into four categories; liberal, conservative, logical, and/or humorous.

@LIBERALS: When the white man colonized America the mantra was, "He who does not work does not eat." This concept wasn't new to the area as those who were (t)here before had about the same concept. Why should Joe Sixpack pay for some woman's six kids all with different fathers? How about the dude that's been on and off unemployment his/her whole life? actuall why doesn't the city charge the county a per structure type fee and the county tax the residents for said fee. as it stands what is done about county owned structures? does the county pay a fee to the city?
