Unusual CDC Warning

Castrating lambs with your teeth can make you sick, the CDC warned recently. This due to a couple of ranch workers becoming ill from a bacteria associated with fecal contamination. The workers indicated that they had castrated lambs using their teeth and that was determined to be the likely cause of their illness. Anyone ever heard of this before??

Yes, I've heard of the tooth thing. I've also seen the rubber band act on a bullock.

While we're into weird castration.... Shoats (young pigs) were cut with a knife but you had to make sure the knife was never sharpened or used on a pine board or you'd poison the pig!

Castration with a dull knife, sounds unpleasant.

You should sharpen the knife just not on a chunk of pine. After the stone we used to use our pant leg if we were wearing jeans or canvas.

I was born in 47 (that's 1947, Patty!), raised on the south side of town known locally as "calf town" because of all the Germans living there, my nanny (baby sitter) was from the old country and, no, never heard that one.

Just how old are you, Mark?

IMHO, everyone should go watch the clip Miles (above) linked to. It's important!

The same idea applies to women giving birth (torn skin heal better than cut skin) It is supposed to be better to tear while giving birth than to have an episiotomy. The idea is that the uneven edges of a tear fuse better and more quickly than the straight edges of a cut.
