I used to live in Japan -- you'd be surprised at what lengths men there will go to just to obtain women's underwear. Most Japanese hang their clothes on the balcony to dry, and it's important to remember to take it in before dark!
What makes this even more odd is that they could save themselves the hassle. There are vending machines all over that sell used (unwashed) women's underwear. Maybe it's the thrill of the hunt?
