Anti-DNA Spray

We last reported on artist Heather Dewey-Hagborg a year ago when she was collecting random samples of DNA on the street (bits of hair, saliva on cigarette butts, etc.) and then using the genetic information to reconstruct what the person whose DNA it is looks like.

Now she's back with a new project. She's started a company called BioGenFutures that will be selling a spray called "Invisible" for $99 that you can use to erase your DNA from everything you might leave it on. In case you're worried about leaving your DNA around.

I'm not sure what's in the spray, but I imagine bleach would break down DNA and be a lot cheaper than what she's selling.

I think a vacuum suit that prevented bits of hair and skin from escaping would be more effective. Built-in food and water dispensers would also be useful.

My first question is, really, who wants YOUR DNA?

Then, just carry around a spray bottle of bleach!

Rather than carrying a spray bottle of bleach, bury your DNA signal in a whole lot of noise: carry around a spray bottle with other people's DNA, instead.

I remember a good story along these lines in a movie titled "GATTACA." To answer the question, "Who wants your DNA?", perhaps, in a society obsessed with eugenics, the overseers will want it in order to ensure that YOU are fit to live in society.

Just a thought...

Calling it now; This will be revealed as yet another "art" project.

I have it on good authority the best way to remove traces is to buy some beef liver, puree and strain it so you can put it into a spray bottle, and cover the area you want to clean. This 'fresh' blood is the best thing for dissolving specks of blood which dried quickly, and the pulverized tissue will bind to hair and epithelial cells, making a clot which is easier to pick up. Use a wet-dry vac then a carpet cleaner. Finish with a rinse of bleach.

Besides actually removing the traces, you've also diluted it millions to one with a very similar material. CSI would have conniptions.

Perhaps the idea is to spray something that removes the DNA without destroying what it is sprayed on like bleach does with many things.

They are also selling a spray bottle that does this too.

@ Robk. Pick up the coffee cup of a enemy. Replicate his DNA for a spray that will totally over power your own?
