Armalite Arms David

This ad by American gun company Armalite not only has seriously offended some people in Italy (in particular the director of the Accademia Gallery where the David statue is located, who says that the ad is disrespectful to Italy's dignity and culture) but also has got them lawyering up. Because in Italy the likeness of a work of art must apparently be licensed by the government for commercial use. Even if the work of art is over 500 years old. [guns.com]

You mean there was a time in LA that honest citizens could own firearms? 😉

I can see that. As long as they don't make it an issue, it won't be one. If someone comes around saying "hand them over", one or the other of us is going to push the little daisies and make them come up (bonus points for the reference). I'm a peaceful person, but sometimes peace needs some backup. I may go off on something some state does, but there are actually whole countries that do some things more right than ours.

"You mean there was a time in LA that honest citizens could own firearms?" - @Expat47

Yeah, in the early 1960s. I think it was about 1967 that the last honest person moved out.

😊

@Evilwrench -- It's definitely a matter of taste.

I have a background in engineering/manufacturing, and my favorite machines have always been automatic screw machines because of their graceful shape and dance-like movements (I'm not being kinky --automatic screw machines are lathes which make screws and similar parts. Search YouTube for "Brown and Sharpe screw machine" to see what I mean).

I'm guessing you're more of a punch press kind of guy.

Engineers of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but your car keys! I know screw machines and all that stuff, even though I'm more of an EE, I have a lot of ME in me, and a lot of the machines in my garage 😊 Have a lathe with threading capability, vertical mill, and all. I do indeed have the DiAcro punch, Pexto shear, etc etc. I can make about anything. Made an electric bass, frets and all, with a neck mount that begs for a patent. Curvy? Yeah. But it's a tool, and tools are my thing. Well, tools and m'lady; she's curvy in a more interesting way.

Yeah.

Now imagine an advertisement from a sex toy company, depicting the Statue of Liberty on all fours with her dress hiked up and one of their products shoved up her jacksie, and the slogan "Sexual Liberty - Even She Buys It!". I don't think Di Blasio would be much pleased. And that's not quite as offensive as this ad is to sane Europeans - everybody enjoys sex, even the most hypocritical New England Puritans, but most of us hope not to ever have to shoot someone forty times in a second.

(As for the Aphrodite of Melos - that was made in Greece and is now in France. Nothing to do with Italy at all.)

Don´t bother Richard, it´s a waste of time.

Yeah, Liberty's not hot like that, and that chick with no arms doesn't do much for me either. I keed, I keed. I hope you realize the firearm in question isn't oriented to rate of fire as much as long distance accuracy.

I just bought my ... ummmm ... can't remember how many guns again today.
An old no longer made .357 Magnum Rossi before they were bought out by Taurus.
I also love having a FFL3 license although I don't sell.

Gun is more poorly proportioned than David.

QR code hovering in relation to nothing.

Bad graphic design.
