Atomic Bomb Survival Jacket

As the designers admitted, it wasn't going to protect anyone against an atomic bomb or radiation. But as a survival jacket it seemed pretty well equipped. Though a backpack full of the same stuff would seem to be more practical.

It's very practical if you either want to seize your stuff fast without emptying your backpack, wear the jacket in a crowded subway or bus, or both.

I see it as a trade-off. As a backpack/separate kit, it can be passed to someone else who needs it. As a jacket (although today I'd use a tactical vest), it's much easier to keep with you, especially when you might have to crawl through confined spaces or over piles of rubble.
