Aussie Cars:  the Holden

I can't say I had ever heard of the Holden line of cars prior to my recent research.

Some great 1960s motifs and attitudes in the second video: "Toranas are really groovy!"

Those Aussies must have wanted their own line of car so they wouldn't be holden to anyone else.

Generally cars made in Australia have not been imported to the North American markets. However, there have been a few designs that originated in Ford and General Motors Australian divisions that were sold here in the States. The early 1990's Mercury Capri was one model imported directly and IIRC the current Chevrolet Camaro came from the Aussie design studios. But not many cars from Oz have made it here officially.

That Torana model reminded of the offspring of a Plymouth Fury and a Mercedes C-Class.

The Aussies are into stock car racing AND drag racing so I suppose that makes them...uh...rednecks.

Lots of shots of cruising downtown streets - a prehistoric "Australian Graffiti".
