Bank- A Four Letter Word

Chase bank sends cashier's check to customer. Customer attemps to cash check at Chase bank. Chase bank employee decides check is fake. Chase bank has man arrested, discovers mistake and leaves message on detective's voice mail on a Friday. Detective is off that day, man remains in jail all weekend. Man is fired from his job, his car is towed and, due to the legit check being held as evidence, is auctioned off. Oh, by the way, the cashier's check was generated at the same branch where the man went to cash it.

Hey, the banks aren't just screwing up forclosures anymore!

The clerk must have been studying to be a lawyer. You just can't get any more screwed up than to be both a banker and a lawyer.

I hope he sues their royal a$$es off.

I just saw the video interview and it makes me wish I had a Chase account so I could go into the local branch and noisily close it out and see how much I could embarrass them.

They screwed up his life, stole his car, and kept his money for a year. I wouldn't convict him if I was on the jury trying him for assault on the clerk. Hell, I would probably get up out of the jury box and beat on the clerk a bit myself.

And the hell of it is that the clerk probably won't even be disciplined and the bank will just consider any judgement against them a "cost of doing business" and screw somebody else up.

I agree the bank & employee screwed up royally but after listening to the story I've got a lot more questions than I heard answers.

** The guy had a bad rep of hanging paper at the bank/branch and had had his account closed already.

** He left before the dispute was resolved leaving behind (I assume) the check, his driver's license, and credit card.

** It's been a year since this happened and <<<NOW>>> he's gotten a legal beagle on the case with a "strong letter"????

** With an income that could generate a $9,000+ rebate on his taxes and he was bouncing checks?

Something's off!

@Expat

Agreed, upon further consideration I too smell something fishy. But if he was cashing a valid check and it was actually issued from the branch he tried to cash it at then all he was guilty of was bad karma. I would really like to see some follow up on this story.

I've got no money in Chase so take them to the cleaners but, like Paul Harvey, Jr. used to say, "And now, for the rest of the story."

@Martel

and thanks to Expat...

People knock stereotypes but there is a reason for them. Martel, you may very well be a very nice guy and I have seen no evidence to the contrary here at WU. But the legal and banking professions as a whole have worked very hard over the past decades to earn their stereotypical stripes.

I have personally had two experiences with banks and at least three with lawyers that would make interesting and disgusting reading.

But there are always exceptions to the rule, so if I have offended you Martel please know that it was not a personal attack but rather an attack against two professions with many members who have earned it.

And so he proves his point by painting with a broad brush from the same paint pot.

BTW and FYI - I am not a southerner, I was born in 1939 and raised in Chicago and only moved south to take a job in 2003. Now what does that do for your stereotype?

And for what its worth I am sorry for offending you personally but I still stand behind the stereotype statements. Could it be that you are so upset because you recognize, and don't like, the truth about the professions overall?

You are wrong about me being a southerner...

There are three kinds of people living in the south

1 - True southerners born and raised in the south.

2 - Yankees who are Yankees who come south.

3 - And finally Damn Yankees who are Yankees who come south and stay.

Southerners rock!! Unless they are bankers and/or lawyers. Just my opinion. 🧛
