Borden's wasn't bad but Ovaltine tasted like doo-doo. The other two snuck by me I guess.

I remember Bosco and Borden on the shelves at market in my youth. In those bygone days mom bought Quik (it also came in strawberry flavor). These days, I prefer Ovaltine.

TootsieVM I hadn't seen before today but I don't have any great fondness the flavor of Tootsie Rolls or the lollipops.

Ovaltine!!

Bosco and Borden's were icky.

Never saw the Tootsie one, which is okay because they were okay as something sweet, but being chewy was more important than the taste.

I would have loved a Walnetto-flavored drink!

Growing up I liked the strawberry NesQuik drink mix in my milk. The chocolate was OK too.

Mom used to send us Ovaltine in our lunches to school which was why I was glad when free lunches started! Then I got real chocolate milk!
I like Hershey's syrup in milk myself.

I have never tried any of these except NesQuik in the summer. I doubt any of these are as good as real hot chocolate made with Fry,s cacao and hot milk topped with a dollop of cream so thick it had to be spooned out of the bowl.

The big scandal about Ovaltine: the Captain Midnight mugs quickly started leaking. It happened to me and all my friends. Bet it did for everyone who ordered a mug too.

We used to sing: I hate Bosco, it's full of TNT. Mama put it in my milk to try and poison me. But I fooled Mama. I put it in her tea. And now there is no Mama to try and poison me.

For those who care about such trivia. The wrinkly face of the two bad guys being rounded up in the last panel tell me this artwork is by the great Basil Wolverton.

Some samples of his work:

And for the record, never heard of the Tootsie Roll entry in the milk flavors race. Can't imagine. Thanks for the ads.

I remember getting a free sample of a flavoring powder (probably came with Quik or whatever Mom bought) to make grape milk -- it was as disgusting as it sounds, although purple milk was kinda funny. My dad used to snitch a little milk out of my glass to put in his coffee sometimes and I was hoping he'd do it the night I had the grape milk -- so that I wouldn't have to drink it and to see his reaction. No such luck.

Totally Ovaltine! The only one you could eat dry. Great that way on ice cream, although behind Hershey's syrup. It depended on whether you wanted your topping to be crunchy.
