Bear Warning

If you live in bear country, places like Colorado 30 miles south of Denver, do not leave food in your unlocked car overnight. Because, you see, bears are smart enough to open doors if properly motivated. A peanut butter sandwich on the backseat turned out to be proper motivation for one bear. While climbing into the car the bear knocked it out of gear, the car rolled into a thicket, and the door fell shut when it stopped. Now, while bears can open car doors from the outside, they apparently aren't that good at it from the inside. By the time authorities found a way to release the bear from a distance he had destroyed the interior trying to get out. He also left something behind in exchange for the sandwich. A big steaming pile of something on the driver's seat.

they bearly managed to get the door open safely. also there was bearly anything left of the interior of the car. next time they will bear in mind not to leave food in the car. or lock it up at the bear minimum.

I've seen vids of bears breaking into cars. The door handle was immaterial to say the least.

Pssst! Actually they learned how to do this stuff watching reruns of Yogi Bear on the rangers' TVs.

The problem with bear-proof, whatever-proof stuff is that it was designed by intelligent people not crafty-sly-tricky-whatevers.

They have now changed their label to read "Bear Resistant" instead of "Bear-Proof" :cheese:

 bear resistant! depends on the standard iq of the bears in the area you camp out at.

So the answer to the old saw "Does a Bear $#!t in the Woods?" is now "No, he $#!ts in the Back of the Toyota."

Bear-Proof containers are a bit of an arms race between manufacturers and increasingly smarter & more dexterous bears; in Yellowstone & Yosemite they have to come up with new methods of stopping bears from getting at food every year and they're bearly keeping up with the "Bear Geniuses" at that rate.
