Too many fingers, too many hands, too many arms, too many legs
News of the Weird has been here before with Body Integrity Identity Disorder (and if it's a sexual thing, especially a man whacking his stuff off while still intending to remain a male, it's apotemnophilia), but this latest report also expands the field: people who long to be paralyzed (maybe so they can be confined to cool wheelchairs!) and people who want to be blind or deaf. The continuing crisis for BIID'ers is that it's hard to get a doctor to help them meet their goals (what with that "do no harm" deal), leaving the solution to "self-help" or, um, "undocumented" physicians. (Related point, from previous News of the Weird coverage: There are "members of the deaf community" who so love being deaf that they prefer deaf babies, and, if that fails, refuse suggestions for Cochlear implants that would open a lifetime of sound to the kid.) After reading article, I am sure I am going to catch myself everytime I meet anyone with the nickname 'stumpy' or 'stubby'.
Until this article I had never heard of this desire to mutilate oneself in this manner. However, I have read about people who prefer to engage in sexual activity exclusively with persons who are missing one or more limbs.
Being of Portuguese parentage, I myself am related to people who would not know if they were missing anything, let alone IQ points!
I have a cousin who told me she did not need to worry about birth control as she was a devout Catholic who prayed both before and after sexual intercourse for God to keep her from getting pregnant until she was married. I a certain there is at least one, if not more, WU fans out there who are wondering how successful was her technique. Here is the tally:
First child at the age of 15.
2nd and 3rd before she was 20 years of age.
4th and 5th child during her first marriage.
I do believe her god has finally answered her/his heavenly email as my cousin has not had anymore children since her 7th one came along. I can think of a few choice bits that my cousin could definitely do without.
