Death by Gas-Lift Bed

Helen Davey recently died when her "Ottoman-styled gas-lift bed" collapsed on her neck and asphyxiated her.

I didn't know what a "gas-lift bed" was, so I googled it and found the video below. I agree with the coroner that the design of these beds seems dangerous.

We've previously posted about dangerous beds with the case of the man who was trapped for five days in a folding bed.

Beds can be hazardous to one's health in other ways, too. About three years ago, I was lifting the corner of my heavy mattress to get a fitted sheet on it and tore my right bicep muscle. I now have what's called a Popeye deformity.

Seems to be roughly the same as tailgate struts. I've replaced those for the opposite reason: they couldn't keep it up, what might be called an erectile dysfunction.

If you follow the link to the source, you'll find this:

| A toxicologist found Helen had high levels of alcohol – almost four times the drink-drive limit –
| and prescription drugs in her system at the time of her death, and the court heard she had
| struggled with alcohol addiction.

Yeah. What a terrible bed.
