The Dinkelsbühl Armageddon

March 1946: Panic gripped the German town of Dinkelsbühl when a rumor spread that "Saturn had jumped its orbit and was hurtling earthward at astounding speed".

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find out anything else about this panic, even in German sources.

The populace had just been through the greatest conflict in history. Saturn hitting the Earth would have been anti-climatic after that.

A rumour about a German town, by-lined to be reported from London, in a Canuck newspaper. Who don't know the difference between the Astronomer Royal and a royal astrologer.

Alex, I don't think you're going to find anything anywhere else about this. It was made up on the sub-editor's late-night desk.
