Easter bunny controversy

An Easter ad campaign recently generated controversy over in Europe. A Swiss shopping center promoted the opening of a new shop by running an advertisement showing a rabbit that (through the magic of photoshop) appeared to be wearing a pair of panties. A representative from an animal protection group said, "From our point of view, the respect of the rabbit has been badly damaged." And went on to suggest that the image could promote unwholesome feelings of desire towards animals.

This isn't the first time WU has reported on an Easter bunny controversy. Two years ago we called attention to an ad for Cadbury's caramel nibbles that featured a similarly provocative rabbit.

When reporting from say Switzerland, say Switzerland, not Europe. To suggest that all European countries are the same is like saying Mississippi and Hawaii are the same. I´v never heard of either of these `controversies´ and yet I´ve lived in Europe´ for 39 years now. How strange.

"... promote unwholesome feelings of desire towards animals."

I've been thinking on that for the last few hours and I can't see it.

@KDP -- panties are supposed to keep things from being seen.

Considering that rabbits are well known for frequency of mating, I think putting panties on one would slow it down.

Yeah, let someone come up with bunny panties that prevent excessive breeding and those PETA knock offs would be all for it.

Be sure to remove the panties first. Add butter and bacon as needed.

"...similarly provocative rabbit."

Um, no Alex.

And the worst thing? It's the Easter hare in Europe, not the Easter bunny rabbit. Rather different animals, those - nobody who's seen them side by side will ever conflate them again. That up there is definitely not an Osterhase. I could, possibly, excuse such ignorance in a shopping mall if it weren't for the clear hint in the word, but for an animal wrongs group it's simply yet another testament of incompetence.

As usual these days, there's no end of mopes looking for things to be offended by on others' behalf, generally to spoil things for normal people. If you don't tell them to stuff it at every opportunity, they feel empowered.

Unwholesome feelings for bunnies is not much different than unwholesome feelings between two guys.

RobK: Wholesoame feelings between two guys is much preferable to those between, say, rednecks. At least gays don´t propagate.

"At least gays don´t propagate. "

Neither do rednecks who like bunnies.

Yeah, but the bunny hasn't given informed consent. The faggots have, so leave the faggots alone unless you want to be branded a bunny-raper.
