Expensive Pets

Alex's post on animal owners seems to have divided WU readers into two camps: those who would pay any sum to heal their pet, and those who would duct-tape a gerbil at the first sign of infirmity.

I'm sure both types of readers would like to learn about the experiences of Kim Cavallero.

Due to myriad health issues, Kim Cavallero has racked up more than $20,000 in veterinary bills for her cat, Annie, in the past year. Through the employee assistance program at her job, she discovered Feline Outreach. "During a time when people thought I was crazy for continuing to care for my pet through very serious and expensive medical care, Feline Outreach validated me -- especially emotionally,'' she said. "With their grant, they let me know that I was doing the right thing for my cat.''

Let it be known that I paid the vet to fix the ailing gerbil. Expat is the one who immediatly thought of the duct tape cure. :gulp:

"For an animal with a brain the size of a pea and would just as soon scratch the skin off the back of your hand as well as let you stroke it..." At first, I honestly thought you were talking about Maxx.

$90 to put a hamster to sleep? I really should have become a vet!

BTW, can I help it if duct tape is rural America's answer to all problems that can't be solved with either a screw driver, pliers, or hammer?

$90 to put a hamster to sleep? What, you couldn't find a hammer? Sheesh. Look, I love my dog and my cat, but I'll love the next ones I have just as much. I'm not going to max out any credit cards to keep them alive, that is reserved for the human members of my family only.

I would just flush everything once it got too difficult to care for. It'd all go down eventually. Dogs, birds, African Greys.

I would never harm an animal, but they're not worth 20k to keep alive. Ryan's right, I'll be fond of the next ones, too. As the bumper stickers up here in Wisconsin say: "I love animals... They're great with mashed potatoes and gravy."

We spent almost $900 on a kitten who got sick and ultimately died. Rushed him to the 24 hour vet and he died 2 days later. They never did find out what was wrong with him......supposedly.

Sara, as the bard is known to have said, "First, kill all the lawyers."

Note to "?" regarding personal use of duct tape: If I thought that would help, I'd use it! (Most likely have to import some from the US though. The stuff we've got over here is "Brand X".)

I used Windex on my dog's hemeroids. Cured him in 3 days.
I like duct tape. Brought some into the bedroom for some kinky sex. Never saw a woman leave so fast. I still have one of her boots.

I think the boy was trying to do his homework but the parrot is watching TV so the boy turns it off. ^^
