We had a neighbor who was into the alternate lifestyle of California in the early 1970's. My mother didn't approve and told us kids to stay away from their house. Their kids were our age, schoolmates and, of course, our friends, so mom's admonition made going into their house all the more enticing.
The neighbors actually weren't all that much different than any other neighbor, except for the magazines they subscribed to - I never saw Life magazine on the coffee table but their were a lot of copies of the Whole Earth Catalog and the Berkeley Barb. And that is where I was introduced to Fat Freddy's Cat. You gotta see the headphone strip to fully appreciate FFC.
