Feral American children in the news
Last week, the St. Petersburg Times ran an update on the condition of a girl found in 2005 in the most putrid, backward home any of the officials had ever heard about (she has genuine environment-based autism). The next day, the Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle had another, but this time, 11 kids, aged 9 months to 18 yrs. No records of the family anywhere; because of their isolation, they didn't exist. I read the Dani story in my Sunday paper...which is the source for this blog bit.

But I have to say to Lioness...Please don't make me throw something heavy at you. Could you MAYBE replace "the south" with EVERYWHERE? Cruelty to children is not a regional thing. Because of people getting around tax laws some states enacted a minimum sale for a car. People were saying their car was a "gift" and then didn't have to pay the correct taxes on it. What does that have to do with people mistreating children, though? There are non-licensed midwives in places other than the south. And did you know you don't HAVE to have a license to practice midwifery? You can become a midwife through apprenticeships. It doesn't mean you know less...it just means you aren't licensed & you can't get insured.

And Dani's family was a "family" (I use the term loosely for their situation) of just 4...and she was still "hidden" away.

Oh my frick, I just want shake you until your eyes rattle back into your skull.
