I would really, REALLY not want to know what was in there considering its probably some Standard Oil refining byproduct, but hey, "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" I guess.

Mineral oil will flush the plumbing all right. Unlike modern laxatives though it works like dynamiting your chimney to remove the soot.
