The Roman Catholic Church has formally approved a confession app. Even as a lapsed (recovering?) Catholic I find this rather disturbing. Can't stop progress I guess.

i have heard this mentioned as a joke, but now the Church has sanctioned its use. somethings shouldn't be farmed out to technology.

of course. why not reach out to tech-savvy Catholics to get more of their money? never in my life or reading have i seen or found any action of the church that did not somehow involve marketing and profit.

Just in case it isn't clear: you still have to confess to a priest. The Church has only approved it as preparation for the sacrament of reconciliation, but it can't replace it.
