Girl Scouts File Suit

The most controversial poster of 1969, which prompted the Girl Scouts to file suit. Although a judge threw out the case, citing no evidence that the organization had suffered any damages.

I look at this and can't help but compare the result to recent observations of how highly placed people and organizations react today to being mocked...This was, in fact, an extremely mild reaction to what the organization considered terrible 'slander'...And, honestly, the insult here could be read reasonably seriously. But any even vague attempt at mocking certain groups and individuals that think too highly of themselves, and, well, the language I end up hearing on that is oftentimes language that I would never use. I miss the days when both insults and arguments were much more intelligent, rather than effective tantrums that a two-year old might be expected to throw. Pity...at least in the past, they had to use wit.

I imagine they got the idea from Tom Lehrer's "Be Prepared", which predated the poster.

If you're looking for adventure of a new and different kind
And you come across a Girl Scout who is similarly inclined
Don't be nervous, don't be flustered, don't be scared,
Be prepared
