In the Heat of the Night

Somehow, I lived through the 1980s without becoming aware of the German disco singer Sandra.

My good luck has failed me, however, as I willingly subjected myself to this video.

Three questions:

1) How many musical instruments did they ruin in that shower?

2) Why has the noble clapstick faded from today's pop music?

3) Is the keytar the wussiest instrument known to man?

Do you think if poured enough water in there, it would short something out? Sure, there'd be screams, but they'd have to be more tuneful than that racket.

Is that Sean Bean doing an imitation of Patrick Swayze at 1:15? 😖

The German pop scene has a number of atrocities to its name, the musical careers of David Hasselhof and Mila Jovovich for a start, but also its good points.

Nena, Lucilectric, Rammstein all have pride of place in my record collection, Falco oscillated between kitsch and genius but was never less than entertaining, and Kraftwerk - while not my thing - are certainly worth noting.

Nena - 99 Luftballons
Lucilectric - Madchen
Rammstein - Ich Will
Falco - Jeannie
Kraftwerk - Tour de France

Sorry, but the keytar is not for wusses. Not all frontman are singers or guitarists. Herbie Hancock is a fantastic example. Why should he be forced to stand behind pipes and wires when free movement across the stage can be attained with a keytar? Now if a portable drum kit could be made then Phil Collins could go back to singing and drumming and be up front for all to see.
Though Starr Labs Ztars kick much ass! http://www.starrlabs.com/
