Killing, Plucking and Eviscerating Your Chicken

There's nothing weird about butchering a chicken, but I've never seen such a detailed guide to the entire process. Over at BackyardChickens.com, "Frugal Squirrel" shows you what to do. He starts with a live chicken, kills it, plucks it (with an automatic plucking machine), and removes all the innards.

What he finally ends up with looks like what you'd buy in the supermarket.

What's the deal with the silver chicken holder thingie and a knife? A real chicken-plucker just reaches down, grabs the head and with a quick flick of the wrist decapitates the chicken and allows it to run around until it's bled out.

The rest looks pretty normal thought I've seen the ice water thing tried.

what's with all of the animal butchering stuff lately??

how about a post on how to eviscerate an elephant? i'd like to see a picture of that!
