I remember hearing of another group that communicates like this - on the Canary Islands. Don't remember where I saw mention though. Very practical.

On a small island off the US East Coast - I think it's called "Man-Hat-On" or something like that, the males call to the females with whistles called 'cat calls' or 'wolf calls'. The females may respond, depending on their mood, with either a summons or a subpoena.
