Let Them Eat Camel

This was news to me: Australia has one of the largest wild camel populations in the world. There are so many camels there, that they're becoming an environmental problem. Therefore, scientists are urging Australians to control the camel population by eating more camel.

According to Wikipedia, "camel meat tastes like coarse beef, but older camels can prove to be tough and less flavorful."

I'd try camel meat, but I've never seen it on sale in the States. Link: Daily Mail

Ha ha! Racism is fun!

On the other hand, I have eaten rabbit, and deer (which stinks like nobody's business in the kitchen). I have also eaten beaver. Cue the jokes.

Is it just me or does every animal introduced into Australia at some point become "an environmental problem". I'm not saying this isn't the case but it seems like every feral animal that is introduced to Australia threatens to take over the continent. Cats, pigs, toads, foxes now camels. I swear if you genetically put a pouch on that camel Australia would: a) embrace the majestic marsupial camel and ignores its carnage on their pristine wildlife and b) well, that would just be really cool to give a camel a pouch.

Chickens all the way baby! Everyone should eat as much chicken as they can stuff in. Seriously.
Why? Chickens have paid my bills for over 20 years now.
All Hail The Mighty Chicken!

I grew up in Northern Ohio, where the Catholic Church determined during the Great Depression that muskrat = fish for Lent. I remember my Grandpa giving us a big packet of frozen muskrat one time (a friend had trapped them), and there it sat, getting freezer burn, for years....

Hey Patty,
Perhaps you need to familiarize yourself with the food chain.

Webbed feet, duck bill and a beaver tail...yep! That's a platypus.

Depending on how it's cooked, most people couldn't tell what the hell type of meat they're eating. I say give the cows a break, pass the camel...I'll take a bite.

genk78 - Not all of us eat nutria. Most of us don't really eat them but they are hunted because they cause damage to our coast by eating the plants that give support to the coastline. Plus there pelts are worth money.

genk78 - you can say what you want about Louisiana, you won't offend me.

My family (not immediate) is the same way...in fact they don't even have to shoot it. They're happy if they run over it. I may be wrong but I just don't think it is the majority opinion.
