Miss Credit Union

The earliest 'Miss Credit Union' contest I could find was in 1948. The latest was in 2011. Though I suspect some are still going on, but maybe not calling attention to themselves.

I think it's the changing times that brought an end to these small scale beauty contests. They were mostly for advertisement purposes. A few free column inches in local papers and a picture of a pretty lady in a swim suit. Agencies began to look for more ways to to spread the word. Magazines and TV could cover more territory. And by the late 60s pretty ladies in swimsuits had lost that innocent charm. Thank you Hugh Hefner and Betty Friedan.

Speaking of beauty pageants, you may have missed this:

Another factor may be that it is not, these days, wise to publish your address like that. Back then, it would go into a local newspaper and some 50% of the people who read it would know where you lived already. Now, it gets scanned in, published on the internet, and before you know it some nutter three states over comes to your door trying to do your face in for "trying to steal my man".

Listing the girl's measurements as "vital statistics" is really cringy.

Cringy, but typical of the era.
