Miss Grits

Alas, I fear this contest has been discontinued.

Teeny Miss Grits Ava Dean, 2, (L) and Miss Grits Lindsay Dobbs, 16, participate in the parade during the 14th annual National Grits Festival in Warwick, Georgia USA on 09 April 2011.

13th Annual National Grits Festival in Warwick Georgia every April featuring arts and crafts, eating event, corn shelling, parade and rolling in the grits pit.

The Misses Grits in the photos were part of the National Grits Festival in Warwick, Georgia, while the Atlanta Journal article is about the World Grits Festival in St. George, South Carolina, which apparently had its own Miss Grits. That seems to mean there were two different Miss Grits contests.

Americans love pretty girls.
Does anyone know if other countries have a similar amount of beauty queens? It sure seems like here in the U.S.A. we will use any excuse/event/product/industry to celebrate a lovely lady.

Is this about a hamhock and a grit of hominy, or about gritting the roads?

Before the arrival of Hugo Chavez, Venezuela was the world champion producer of beauty queens. After Chavez and Maduro, a lot of Venezuelans moved to Colombia, so I guess Colombia has become the world champion producer of beauty queens.
