Miss Heat Pump of 1957

As far as I can tell, Ann Brueggemann was the only young woman ever crowned 'Miss Heat Pump'.

I like how her ideas for her costume all look like elegant dresses, whereas I'm sure that the company's idea was to put her in a giant heat pump costume.

Nice title.

No surprise that the absurd claims for heat pumps were with us in '57, too. Heat pump, shmeat pump, Verne.

Actually, the company’s idea was probably to put her in a bikini…

We got talked into a heat pump for a new home we had built in the late 70's. So poorly did it heat our house we had to install a wood stove. Never again

Ah, what simple times. Today's biggest news in beauty pageants is disqualifications for botox, collagen, and hormone injections. Some even resort to using rubber bands to restrict blood flow, making 'certain body features' larger.

Heat pumps are great - if you live in Iceland, or run a chemical laboratory. For a simple home in continental Europe or the USA? Not so much.
