I'll guess some kind of rudimentary video phone because of the camera looking thing on his eyeglasses. Will look at the answer later after Patty calls soon.

I'm not looking until I post this (Honest!). I think it is a rudimentary vision processor with the output in the belly band.

Oooh! Good Guess. I see that although the vision thing hasn't quite made it to the market yet, the secondary article about the hip joint replacement system still makes for timely reading.

I vaguely remember this in the news- an artificial vision system. Took a picture and converted it into a raster-scan of pinpricks, and supposedly the user could feel the pattern on their skin and "see" an image.
