I came across this rather interesting article while surfing on a dream analysis website, and thought it would be the perfect suplement to Nethie's post about brain mapping and reading dreams. It refers to my own people, the Iroqous (League of Six Nations, including the Mohawk) and our unique perspective on the dream world. To this day many of us are guided in life by what our dreams tell us. There are festivals dedicated to dreams, and even battles fought according to visions in dreams.
Native American Dream Analysis
More in extended about things left out of the Analyse Dreams article....
Some simple facts that were left out of the article:
In many Native American cultures, it is believed that when you die in your dreams, you die in real life. This is because the dream world is just as valid as the waking world. This is the reason people wake up just before they die in a dream; it is a form of protection. Many Native American cultures also practice lucid dreaming. This is when a person trains themselves to realize they are dreaming, and can then interact in their dreams in a more concious manner. This gives them complete control over their dreams. Some have even reported the ability to fly or breath fire at will in their dreams.
The belief in the dream world also explains one of the more critical needs for the Dreamcatcher. As most people now know about Native culture, it is used to keep away bad dreams and bad spirits. Another purpose is that a bad spirit or 'demon' may often attempt to enter aa person's dreams to create chaos so they may feed off their fear, or even kill them. Some of these evil spirits have the ability to hold a person in the dream and keep them from waking. The Dreamcatcher, of course, is the best prevention for it.
Just a tip; a Dreamcatcher given with love and good intentions is the most powerful kind. If you really want to protect someone you love, then you are probably the best person to give them one. Love is a good energy, which protects and heals.
