Next The Transporter From Star Trek

A division of Panasonic, a Japanese corporation, has developed a machine based on the movie "Aliens". Activelink. the division, hopes to have a working version of the powerloader from the film by 2015. For those not familiar with the movie, the powerloader is a robot that a human gets into and can control powerful arms and legs to do heavy lifting and moving. It was used to fight the alien in the movie. The scientists on the project are still trying to make the machine lighter so a human can operate it safely. They feel it would be especially useful in warehouses and disaster relief situations to move heavy objects quickly and with precision. I'm going to follow another poster's lead and ask everyone to include what movie technology you think should be developed in real life next in your comments.

the transporter would be great, no more terrorists threatening planes full of people. i know they'd just do something else but still... the replicator, also from star trek would be great too. it could stop famine in it's tracks. besides we'd never be out of my favorite ice cream. 😛

Technically, the transporter from Star Trek is already being developed. Quantum Teleportation is commonplace in labs, though currently only on a subatomic scale. The problem is any form of teleportation essentially pinpoints every atom in your body, then destroys the original and recreates it on the other side. It would be great for buying things off the internet, but I'm not comfortable with being killed and then a copy of me being reassembled any time I want to skip the lines at the airport...

Wormholes, on the other hand, are something I hope they are successful with, as they require no death and offer the same benefits as teleporters.

yeah till you get a variable one and end up in the delta quadrant with no way home for 7 years.(till the show finale) :cheese:
although teleportation has a (fictional) history of mixing body parts with an insect an destroying one on a cellular level.
oh well, nothings perfect and that's why you always wait a couple of years before trying new technology, you know, till they get the 'bugs' out.

Right now I'd be happy if the world would get off their collective asses and get the space program up and running like they meant it! We need to get off this ball of mud and reach for new horizons.

How about Instant Date Mix? Just dump the packet into a tub of water, stir for 5 minutes, and in just a quarter of an hour your date is fully formed and ready to go. Choose now from over 50 different models or, for a super time, try them all!

WARNING: Use the whole contents of the packet. Mixing of contents from two, or more, packets is not advised.

You gotta upgrade to the best (and arguably, only good) part from The Matrix Revolutions - the Armored Personal Units.

And yes, I had to look up the name, since I thought the name wouldn't be dorkier than "those cool robots that shot down the Sentinels". :cheese:
