You have to remember, this was before TV and most people still didn't have radio so they had to seek out entertainment wherever and whenever it came along.

And a good time was had by all!

I am going to refer to my irate cussing in Italian (when English just won't do) as "foreign imprecations." Love how they have to spell out that the vendors were Italian --- and I'm sure they pronounced it "Eye-talian."
