Pass That Peace Pipe

"Why can't we all just get along?"

"Pass that peace pipe, bury that tomahawk/Like those Chichamecks, Cherokees,/Chapultepec's do..."

Interesting trivia: this song, from the movie "Good News", was nominated for the Oscar for best song in 1948. It lost to "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" from the movie "Song of the South". No stereotypes in that film, either, right? Oscars info at https://www.oscars.org/oscars/ceremonies/1948

Not only is the vocal performance so-so, the song itself is a real steaming pile, even if you overlook all the racism. Showing again why the Oscars are pretty much meaningless-just people handing out awards to themselves.

It all depends on what's in that peace pipe. Probably not what we smoked as teens.

Even more questionable is this song by Irving Berlin, in Annie Get Your Gun.
