It is interesting to me that while dog fighting is condemned and illegal, that cock fighting is celebrated by using them as mascots and naming sports teams after them: "Gamecocks".

From Wikipedia: As of 2023, cockfighting is illegal in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and all U.S. territories.

ges,

Yes, and when I did an internet search, the only school I could find that used Pitbulls as their mascot was Bristol, in the United Kingdom. Hmmm...

My non-explicit point about gamecocks is that while cockfighting is illegal and condemned by many, the use of a gamecock as a school mascot is still a thing. Dog fighting is also illegal in the U.S.A., and while lots of schools use the bulldog as a mascot, I could not find a single one that uses the pitbull. If there is a school out there besides Bristol, I would be interested to know which it is.

We have had several sports teams change their mascots from Native Americans to other things, such as the Washington Commanders. I guess the animals just do not mind, or protest as much. 😊

Mascots: Ferocious and tough, unless you are the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs.

Thankyou to you, and all the WU commenters. I find what others say to be interesting.
