Prophetic? Only if you buy into the current philosophy that mankind would be better off living like we did in the "Good Old Days" with no air-conditioning, horse hockey piled in the streets, and a population one-fifth what it is today.

No thanks.

1/5th population is a bad thing?

It has been my observation that those who worship at the altar of environmentalism really, really hate people.

If we don't take control of *how* we will return to the "Good Old Days" then we will return to them in an uncontrolled manner. You pick.

I don't hate people, I hate crowds.

Between PETA and the Environatzis humans may be the ones who become extinct. Then all the cow farts would cause an ice age and empty the planet altogether. YAY! The trees win!

Even though my first 1976 4x4 truck only got 12 mpg at best, I bet my 'Carbon Footprint'is less than most PETA or celebrity environmentalists. Much less!!!

I reckon humans would be really hard to make extinct... We have evolved to be really damn tenacious... Global warming is a big problem but not catastrophic for the species

Also I suspect that polluting is like driving; everyone is terrible at it except yourself.

Ice ages have come and gone many times and we're still locked into that ebb and flow. (And, like, we're still ebbing, yo!)

If people are the bane of the environment then, pray tell, why aren't these tree hugging, ahhhhhh individuals clambering for population control? No one seems to want to get down to the nitty-gritty of restricting population growth like China did.

We need to eradicate at least 3,000,000,000 resource sucking, carbon spewing baby makers so, were do y'all want to start?

(I ain't had my coffee yet so either tread carefully or delay your answer for an hour or so.)

re Expat47: Abortions and birth control... not to mention, war, murder, pestilence, famine, plague, flooding, malaria, and tooth decay

FBS - you seem to have a good grasp of the situation, re: "I reckon humans would be really hard to make extinct... We have evolved to be really damn tenacious... Global warming is a big problem but not catastrophic for the species". I strongly recommend the book I am currently halfway thru, 'Deep Future - The Next 100,000 Years of Life on Earth', by Curt Stager, a noted paleontologist. He cites numerous studies and reliable data to conclude that, #1-We will still be here, #2-We have already forestalled the next Ice Age, that was due in about 30,000 years, #3-The future's gonna suck (we already knew that), and #4-It won't suck nearly so bad if we just stop burning coal within the next 100 years, and the sooner the better. At least that's what I've gotten so far. It's deep stuff, but a worthwhile read.
