The myth was started by someone who lived next to the river and had scuba tanks.

The article says average cost was $1,500. The inflation calculator I use says that's $25,485.38 today. Steep!

I saw a segment on a show, possibly "Mysteries at the Museum", on Reno being the divorce capital back in the 1930's due to the fact that divorces were difficult to get, and tended not to financially favor women in the rest of the USA back in the 1930's.
