Skydiving fish

I never realized that wildlife managers stock lakes by dropping fish out of planes, but apparently they do, as shown by a short video recently posted online by Utah's Division of Wildlife Resources.

And here's a piece about skydiving fish from CNN:

The CNN video answers the question of why fish are airdropped very well. Dropping fish into high mountain lakes was a common sight when I was a kid camping in the Sierra Nevada mountains with the family.

A very familiar method of stocking high mountain range lakes for me also. But then I suspect that this method might be only used in these mountainous areas and if one does not live in such a local they may not be aware of same. And of course to disprove my thoughts, I am sure there are people right here in my area who are not aware of the method.

Hi - Hi! We're your Weather Girls - Ah-huh -
And have we got news for you - You better listen!
Get ready, all you fishermen
and leave those umbrellas at home. - Alright! -

Humidity is rising - Barometer's getting low
According to all sources, the lake's the place to go
Cause tonight for the first time
Like in your wildest wish
Just about half-past ten
It's gonna start raining fish.

It's Raining Fish! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Fish! Amen!
I'm gonna go out to run and let myself get
Absolutely soaking wet!
It's Raining Fish! Hallelujah!
It's Raining Fish! Every Specimen!
Tall, long, healthy and lean
Rough and tough and strong and mean

God bless Mother Nature, she's a fisherwoman too
She took off to heaven and she did what she had to do
She taught every angel to rearrange the sky
So that each and every fisherman could have plenty of fish to fry
It's Raining Fish! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Fish! Amen!
It's Raining Fish! Hallelujah!
It's Raining Fish! Ame---------nnnn!

It's not as glamorous as dropping fish from a plane, but we have a large marsh in our county that is periodically restocked with fish supplied by a small tanker truck. A large hose is hooked up to the tank of fish and they are sprayed out into the water to begin their lives away from the fish hatchery. I took some video of a fish stocking several years ago, and it was interesting to pause it during replay to see all the fish frozen in mid-air.

There have been many documented fish falls (with no plane) around the world. Apparently, it happens so regularly in Yoro, Honduras, that the residents commemorate this bounty from the sky with an annual festival. Naturally, they crown a festival queen, who dresses as a mermaid to ride a parade float. Their contribution for WU's list of pageant queens? SeƱorita Lluvia de Peces - Miss Fish Rain.
