Survey of Idiots
How farsighted our ancestors of 1848 were, to commission such a report! It's about time for another one, I think. It might help us deal with our current political, cultural, economic, interpersonal and environmental messes.
The report is fascinating reading from start to finish, giving a wonderful taxonomy of idiots, such as below.

A facinating document...
It is pretty clear that the authors were genuinely trying to accomplish something good and valuable, but they didn't have much to go on. I wonder how many of the "idiots" had cerebral palsy, or ALS, or perhaps metal poisoning?

Basic problem of everyone thinks they know what they mean when they use a word (in this case: idiot) but nobocy can really agree once you look at it. Basic definition most people really use when they talk about an idiot: Someone who doesn't agree with my views.

I heard once that the Greek word ιδιώτης (idiotis) which means "private citizen" is the origin of the modern word idiot.
