Take Charge Take Care

Take Charge Take Care is the name of a pamphlet produced by the city of New York health department. NYCHD spent $32,000 dollars to produce the 16 page illustrated booklet on the safest way to shoot heroin. That's right a how to with pictures on using smack. Some people are quite upset. Uh, yeah.

20 years ago, when we were living in France, you could, in theory, buy syringes over the counter, or even swap them for free, the theory being that a non-HIV, non-hep drug user was at least an improvement.

You all seem to be forgetting that the majority of the target audience for this thing probably can't read it (illiteracy for the win) or won't bother (apathy too).

Hey, let's give a curious teen a how-to guide so that they can try drugs too!

I'm still in favor of legalizing the stuff, controlling the quality, lowering the price, and making money off of them instead of spending money on "the war on drugs".

i can see legalizing weed, but the hard drugs are too destuctive. some people become alcohlics but everyone who takes opiates of one form or another eventually becomes addicted.

Not a problem. They're registered and restricted from driving, holding office, welfare, etc. Their life, their choice.

*devil's advocate* By that same token, MW, what are your thoughts on alcohol? Sure you don't see a lot of muggings because some guy was jonesing for a six-pack. But you do see a whole lot of folks getting killed while driving because the other guy was drunk. Or the kids born with severe birth defects because the mother drank heavily while pregnant. Maybe it's time we re-enact Prohibition. Oh, that's right... Prohibition didn't work because (and I quote Britannica here) "...law enforcement proved to be very difficult. Smuggling on a large scale could not be prevented, and the illicit manufacture of liquor sprang up with such rapidity that authorities were unable to suppress it. There followed a period of unparalleled illegal drinking (often of inferior and dangerous beverages) and lawbreaking." Replace the words liquor with drugs and you have our ineffective War.

so... fight the good fight basically. a case of the individual battles won outweigh the fact that we can never really win the war. each life saved is a victory worth the cost. i can agree with that mw.

you contribute so much to society, we will be sorry to loose you when the drugs result in your death one day. almost certainly much sooner than your normal life expectancy.
