Taking A Shot At Teaching
A 73 year old man teaching a conceal carry class in Ohio made the cardinal mistake when handling a firearm. He thought the gun was empty and dry fired it without checking. The bullet that was, of course, in the gun ricocheted off a metal desk and struck a man taking the class. Not a class to teach by negative example.

Wow, unbelievable. You'd think the guy would take extra care when teaching a conceal carry, gun safety class.

@ Patty, No, He tried to dry fire it.
This sort of accident is all too common. A well trained instructor will
stress a multipart safety rule set for handling firearms.
1.Treat them as if loaded, ALWAYS!
2.Point them in a safe direction, ALWAYS!
3.NEVER! Pull the trigger unless you want to FIRE THE GUN!
It's pretty simple really.
Forget 1 rule, No big deal.
Forget 2 rules, bad things.
Forget 3 rules, BIG BAD THINGS!

I was taught never to dry-fire a weapon because it's hard on the mechanism. They make special cartridges to cushion the firing pin for when you need to pull the trigger without a round in the chamber.

Always point it at yourself before pulling the trigger if you think it is unloaded and want to be stupid.

What is worse ?? Shooting yourself in the groin with a flare gun or shooting your penis off with a .38 ?? You decide. :gulp:

@ BrokeDad, Recently there have been a rash (and worse!) of people who try to shortcut the expensive silicone injection procedure to enhance their facial features or their butts. Shooting yourself in the groin with a flare gun sounds like a similar cheapskate way around expensive "gender reassignment surgery."
