Tall Men’s Association of America

The Tall Men's Association of America was formed by Benjaming Ostling in 1925. It wasn't just a social club for tall men. It was an activist group that lobbied businesses with the goal to "make life more comfortable for tall men" (as its motto stated).

For instance, members of the association would petition hotels to have longer beds for tall men, or they would ask restaurants to have higher tables.

The group remained fairly active until the early 1940s, but fell into inactivity during WWII.

"...towers into the atmosphere six feet or more"

Things have changed a bit.

I think around 1900 the average height of a man in the United States was about 5 foot 3 inches. Six foot or taller men were looked upon with awe, by some.

There is a similar organization in the Netherlands, the 'Klub lange mensen' (association of tall people). It is still active. Their website is https://www.klublangemensen.nl/, but it is only in Dutch.

And when a Dutchman says he's tall, he's tall. I'm a Dutchman, but by no means tall in this country. In Indonesia, or Mexico? Yeah, I look over the crowds. Over here, I look at people's backs.
