I was curious why the father opened a package that wasn't addressed to him. After all, the normal thing to do, if you receive a package addressed to someone else, is to return it to the post office. So I did a little research.

Seems that the package was sent to "M. Hansen" at 208 East 74th Street, but was delivered to M (Michael) Hanlon - who lived in the same apartment building. So most of the address was correct. The problem was that the "s" looked like an "l".

The postman handed the package to the girl to give to her father when he got home.
