The Return Of Shame

In Great Britain, as a woman lay trapped in a truck after a terrible traffic accident, passing motorists slowed to to take pictures. Besides obstructing traffic and endangering others on the road this was a heartless way to act towards a fellow human. Fortunately police on the scene found a great way to address the situation. They set up a camera of their own to take pictures of the offending rubberneckers. The pictures were then made public along with a warning letter being sent to the drivers involved. Oh, and one more action was taken, those offenders driving company vehicles were reported to their place of employment as well. Bloody brilliant!

Over the 4 hours it took to extricate the injured woman 80 idiots were caught using cell phones to take pictures while driving. Shame is a great motivator.

Humans gawking at oddities, etc. is in the genes and isn't going to be rooted out by a few photos and letters.

Cell phone use while driving, however, should be punishable by D E A T H !

All the more reason to have full armaments installed on your vehicle. "Too close for missiles, switching to cannon."

With all the politically correct articles we read coming from Briton, I wonder if the police will have their hands slapped.

Never thought I'd hear myself say this about cops: excellent judgement!

I have a friend who wanted to install a paintball gun in the grill of his car for such drivers...

Using a cell phone while driving is OK in the UK, so long as you do not *grasp* it. So, having it in a holder on the dashboard, and pushing buttons is OK, but holding it in your hand is a no-no. So those photos of folks taking pictures with their cell phones are probably evidence for the traffic ticket.

As for the armament, one of the radio stations in Jacksonville, FL, umpteen years ago had a recording of a .50 caliber machine gun that was used by their traffic 'copter reporter. When he saw that was a backup on I10 or I95, he'd report it, and then say he was getting rid of the rubberneckers. Daga daga daga... It may or may not have improved traffic, but it sure improved *my* mood while in a tailback!

So, um, how many people took pictures with plain ol' cameras, not cameras built into phones? And was that illegal?
