Ultra Gerrymandering

Gerrymandering, the partisan attempt to form congressional districts in favor of a particular party, was exercised in an interesting way in Colorado. After dividing the new districts to suit themselves politicians found they had made an embarrassing mistake. One Colorado district consists of just one couple. She's a democrat and he's a republican and their dog is an independent.

They are looking at being rolled into one of the other districts, but for now its just them. Crooked politics is alive and well in Colorado.

Alive and well everywhere. There is one way to fix it. Everybody is thier own district. One person, One District, One Vote. It's called Democracy which is not actually practiced here.

We are a republic not a democracy, thus the delegate form of voting.

Just got off the phone with patty ... wanted me to check out the new page/layout.

It's time for them to get and register some fish or hamsters etc on one party or the other :D

(P.S. my dog will vote pro-bono to the first one with steak)

This is funny, and everyone involved admits it was a mistake. but it does not appear to involve any corruption.
1. Not all re-districting is gerrymandering. Population movement often requires it, to keep the numbers of voters per district from ranging too widely. The story does not refer to gerrymandering at all.
2. They have their own PRECINCT, not their own house or senate DISTRICT. Every district (and we are talking the CO state house and senate here, not Congress) has its own representative or senator. A precinct is just a relatively small area that delineates geographically where individuals go to cast their ballots. They are generally set up so that folks can vote in all elections relevant to them at the same time and location. The fluke here is that this couple are the only voters whose house is in House District 49 AND also in Senate District 14.
