Just this week we (a group of expats) were discussing the WWII propaganda machine. Cartoons went a long way to educate, indoctrinate, and lift moral during those years.

BTW, did'ja notice this was a Hanna/Barbera toon?

old time cartoon. hanna/barbera has been responsible for many many cartoons over the years. not all of them were propaganda either.
not funny yes, kdp, but then war is not funny. thought provoking though.

And to think that all that practice I've had pitching tents could be of use to Uncle Sam...

To get rational people to slaughter or enslave other rational people you first have to dehumanize them. Call them anything but what they are; japs, krauts, gooks, rag-heads, whatever. Picture them as having malevolent attributes or make them look foolish (sub-human) then mix in a little God & Country and away you go.

Just don't mention the fat-cats sitting home raking in the ka-ching selling arms & equipment.

Stan, I lucked out and didn't have to fight in any war (mine would have been Viet Nam) so I didn't get to call anyone a gook or charlie, or whatever. On the other hand, no one even asked me what we should call the enemy so don't blame me; I was only stating a truth.

denying or sanitising the past does not erase it. eradicating old mistakes only increases the chance they will be repeated. the discomfort we feel when faced with those names is an indecation that we have learned something and will try to do better.
