Lorett Fulkerson, the Last Performing Tattooed Lady

Was this gal, still performing in the 1990s, the last of her kind, an old-fashioned circus/sideshow performer? Maybe some current hipster performance piece features a tattooed female of this caliber. But it seems unlikely, so common is tattooing these days, even to the similar extent of Lorett's body, 90% inked.

Some info at her Find A Grave site.

KDP - When I see someone covered in tatoos, I say "There goes a Lydia." And no, I am not opposed to them. I have one on my arm.

I once read an account of servants in a big house spying on their betters during a meal because they were using knives and forks instead of just eating with their fingers. (No idea if it was a true period account or if the author caught a totally believable vibe.)

Lining up and paying good money to see someone with tattoos falls into the same category -- once rare and a little shocking but completely commonplace today.

I have nothing against tattoos on other people. I'll never have one. Think about it -- when the police are looking for someone, they describe gender, height, weight, hair color, and tattoos. I can, in a few minutes, use brush-in Halloween hair dye on the sides of my head, put on a cap, wear cowboy boots instead of mocs, either stuff my hoodie or use an Ace bandage to hold in my gut, and be sufficiently far enough from the APB I'll never be given a second look. There's no good, fast, and easy way to hide a tat.
