On a spot that's always barred
And there he plays extravagant matches
In fitless finger-stalls
On a cloth untrue
With a twisted cue
And elliptical billiard balls!

(Gilbert & Sullivan, The Mikado, but I suspect most of you know that already. And if not, you're in for a treat - it pretends to be racist but it actually sends up 19th century England and pulls very few punches.)
